Given the teams current problems on the pitch and Manchester City's potential desire to sell the off-form Frenchman; could he return to The Emirates?
As Manchester City have not quite made the grade in terms of defending their Premier League title this season there have been many culpable parties in that case. Joe Hart has not been at his best and either have David Silva or Yaya Toure; even Vincent Kompany has failed to find the imperious form that endeared him to so many last season.
For Samir Nasri the case has been very similar.
He came into the season grumpy and snarling after falling foul of the media in his homeland at Euro 2012 and he just has not seemed to snap out of that attitude for the entire campaign. The result has seen the occasionally devastating, defence splitting midfield spark used mainly as an ‘’impact’’ substitution in recent months; and I use the term ‘’impact’’ very loosely.
Such a situation obviously lends itself to tales of potential summer outgoings for the French international. So will he be packing his bags and leaving Manchester this summer?
On the back of what Roberto Mancini has recently had to say about the 25-year-old you would have to say it is certainly a possibility:
“Samir can do better than this year. He is a top player but he has not been playing at his level. Sometimes a player thinks it’s enough what they did the year before and doesn’t understand that every day they should improve. Samir has fantastic qualities. He should always play well. A player of this quality could be one of the best players in Europe. But it’s not happening.’’
The team most strongly linked with a move for the 35 caps Les Bleus international have been Paris Saint-Germain. They certainly have the needs and the money to bring in the talent but considering the fractious relationship Nasri has with the French press he may not be so keen.
It may seem a long-shot but could he return to Arsenal?
Well no is the obvious answer but the question really is if Arsenal were to go for him could the clubs current desperation convince Arsenal fans to forgive and forget the player for the way he elft the club in 2011.
He was lambasted by Arsenal fans for his decision to leave for cash-rich City and accosted by fans outside the ground in January this year when he returned to The Emirates with Manchester City.
But considering Arsenal’s current woes a player of his quality who also knows the intricacies of the club as well as he would Nasri would be an excellent re-signing for the club.
Would you welcome Samir Nasri back at The Emirates?
