Expect Tottenham and Arsenal to fall short competing for the services of 'the Dutch Xavi'

Jordy Clasie has been linked with the North London rivals this week. What are the chances of him arriving in the summer?

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur did battle at the weekend in a potentially make or break tie in terms of Champions League qualification and it was Spurs who came out on top with goals from Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon proving enough to defeat The Gunners.

Now it appears, according to The Metro at least, they are also in a battle for a man being dubbed ‘the next Xavi’ by Dutch press; Jordy Clasie.

The central midfield player has had his past troubles. In the past he was dubbed as too weak physically to make it in the professional game and at just 5ft 7ins you can understand where and why those concerns may arise.

However despite the 21-year-olds apparent weakness in regards to his physical aptitude he has adapted a perfectly suitable game in order to avoid the type of instances where his physicality may be called into question; which is where the comparisons with Xavi come into play.

He has a beguiling poise in the centre of midfield and an incredible range of passing. Whether it is a raking 30-yard-pass or a quick one-two in the centre of midfield his ability is unquestionable despite his initial struggles.

It was a loan-spell at fellow Rotterdam side Excelsior for the 2010-11 campaign that finally saw him fulfil his potential enough to begin playing for their more illustrious neighbours at De Kuip. In fact he made his professional debut for Excelsior against Feyenoord in the Rotterdam derby in 2010; a game in which his underdogs won out triumphant.

His tenacious ability on the pitch is mirrored off of it as he has worked very hard to earn the recognition he currently has across Europe as a potential future superstar.

Such performances have not been ignored at international level as his three caps for Oranje highlight.

While the likes of Kevin Strootman continue to gain more attention in the column inches the fact remains that Clasie is a, excuse the pun, classier player than the more brutish PSV midfielder.

However Clasie has already made it very clear that he is not currently considering a move away from Rotterdam as he continues to develop his future at his boyhood club.

Therefore the reported interest from Tottenham and Arsenal seems little more than hear-say for now and the same can be said about recent interest from Serie A outfit Fiorentina.

Expect Jordy Clasie to stay in Holland for now; but certainly keep your finger on the pulse of this exciting talent.
