The North London rivals are apparently not just doing battle on the pitch; as they are linked with doing battle over players from Aston Villa, Feyenoord, Barcelona, Hamburg and Sochaux.
Arsenal and Tottenham did battle in the North London derby at the weekend in a game billed as a potential decider in regards to both clubs Champions League hopes this season. Spurs of course won 2-1 and took the bragging rights in North London for now. But now it seems the two clubs are battling not just on the pitch but off of it; at least if the press are to be believed.
In fact here are seven such players from the past seven days…
Sebastian Corchia - Sochaux
The right-back is France’s under-21 captain and has been in great form in Ligue 1 this season. Such eye catching characteristics were always going to attract interest from abroad and the youngster fanned the flames by claiming he was looking to leave for a ‘big club’ this summer.
Arsenal are reportedly after Bacary Sagna replacements and Corchia fits the bill why Spurs want him is a mystery to us.
Jordy Clasie - Feyenoord
Along with Fiorentina the Londoners have been linked with the man dubbed ‘Dutch Xavi’ by the media in Holland. The Feyenoord midfielder is certainly talented but a deal looks unlikely given his current mood of content at his boyhood club.
Heung-Min Son - Hamburg
Well in fairness with this one pretty much anyone who is anyone has been linked with the South Korean this week.
After his contract talks reportedly broke down Andre Villas Boas and Arsene Wenger were both linked with his signing along with the managers from Inter Milan, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and you get the point.
Christian Benteke - Aston Villa
‘Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and a growing number of top European clubs’ are reportedly now interested in the Belgian after his impressive season for the club this season.
The Telegraph reports that his transfer relies on the safety of Villa and the ability of Paul Lambert to convince him that staying is a good idea.
Andreas Weimann - Aston Villa
The Austrian’s decision to delay contract talks until after the season is rational considering the clubs potentially imminent peril but with his current deal expiring in 2014 it is reported his impressive form may also catch the eye of Premier League rivals.
Daryl Janmaat - Feyenoord
Another Feyenoord player and in a similar fashion to the apparent interest for Sebastian Corchia the interest from Spurs seems to have been added as a late supplement.
Ibrahim Afellay - Barcelona
His loan spell at Schalke has been a resounding failure after injury and petulance problems have seen the Bundesliga outfit discount signing him in the summer.
Apparently Spurs and Arsenal will do battle with Liverpool for this over-rated playmaker.
Do you think either North London rival will sign any of these players?
