Six players Chelsea should let go this summer

Chelsea’s Premier League and Champions League campaigns may force the club to axe several players this summer, but who?

Chelsea need to make changes for next season because at the moment, they are way off the pace in terms of the European Cup and the Premier League title, which they have regularly competed for over the last few years.

The time may have come for a bit of a clearout and a chance for some new faces to come in and perform. Here’s a list of some key players they may be better off letting go.

Fernando Torres

Torres has never produced the sort of form which made Chelsea pay £50 million for him in the first place. His strike rate at Chelsea has been poor and there have been sources suggesting a move back to Spain is on the cards.

Yossi Benayoun

In terms of his technique, Benayoun is one of the best players at Chelsea but he is not a consistently high performer, which is something the club needs if they are going to push on next season. His departure would also free up a surplus budget.

Paulo Ferreira

The Portuguese right back’s profile has dramatically declined at the club in recent years. He’s now nothing more than a back up player in case Azpilicueta picks up an injury. Chelsea need to move him on and bring in a top quality replacement.

Michael Essien

While John Obi Mikel is in the side and the most effective midfield enforcer, there is little point in bringing back Essien from his loan at Real Madrid. The club could free up a significant chunk of wages by moving him on and bring in an alternative.

Florent Malouda

The French winger has not played any significant role in the team this season. He is another player who will be on a decent contract and someone Chelsea should consider cutting loose because he doesn’t appear to fit into the immediate plans of the team.

Ross Turnbull

The goalkeeper has done nothing wrong so it’s unfortunate he’s on this list. However, Chelsea need to get a goalkeeper in who is going to push Petr Cech every single day in training and challenge him for the number one spot at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans, who do you think your club should axe?
