Arsenal have been linked with signing Ashley Williams from Swansea.
Ashley Williams is just the type of defender Arsenal should be after. Talented, a leader, and good in the air.
They have been linked with the centre-back by the Guardian, with the Wales captain valued at £8 million.
Liverpool are also interested in the 28-year-old, and could hold an ace in prying him away from Swansea in former boss Brendan Rodgers.
Arsenal's chances will largely depend on whether they can persuade Williams that he will or will not be first choice.
With Vermaelen, Mertesacker and Koscielny in the mix, it could be a challenge and if Arsenal do not qualify for the Champions League, then the Europa will only represent a sideways step for Williams from League Cup winners Swansea.
If Arsenal could tempt him on board though, he really would be a quality addition, as arguably Swansea's most consistent performer since their promotion to the Premier League two seasons ago.
But Williams should fret not, for he is already an Arsenal fans favourite, regardess of whether he signs on at the Emirates.
And the reason is quite simple. He was the defender who smashed the ball at Robin van Persie's head from close range when Swansea took on Manchester United in December.
The kick which Sir Alex Ferguson incredulously claimed 'nearly killed' the Dutchman.
Van Persie of course remains an unpopular figure after ditching the Gunners for United last summer. Arsenal will hope to turn hunter and persuade another club captain to join them when the season ends.
Would Williams sign for Arsenal?
