Report - Russians want to pay £10 million for Emmanuel Adebayor

Have Tottenham Hotspur found a buyer for Emmanuel Adebayor?

Make of this what you will, but reports in Italy are claiming Emmanuel Adebayor is a target in Russia.

Despite the closure of the transfer window in Russia last week, it is claimed Anzhi Machachkala are busy weighing up an offer for him in the summer.

Spurs fans who want rid of the attacker may hope Anzhi haven't been watching his recent performances. He hasn't netted in almost 360 minutes of football since returning from the African Nations Cup.

The claims are made by Italian website TMW - who claim Adebayor is 'looking for redemption after a difficult period with the club.'

It is reported that Tottenham are not willing to negotiate for less than £10 million.

Our analysis? It's no secret Spurs are likely to be in the market for a new striker during the summer. The club held off on a move in the transfer window because they wanted to give Adebayor more of a chance and look when they had more time and more options.

Adebayor has not so far shown he can be an adequate replacement for Jermain Defoe in Andre Villas-Boas' system, and if another top striker arrives then he will be relegated to third choice.

The striker is on hefty wages of around £100,000 a week at Spurs, and they will not find many teams able to take him on even if they are willing to. The one thing Anzhi have in spades is money, especially after making a small fortune by selling Christopher Samba to QPR.

No action is likely to happen on this one until the summer transfer window, and even then if it were to happen it could drag on for months with the Russian transfer window not closing until late September.

The rumour does have little concrete fact about it, so Spurs fans should take it with a pinch of salt, but for fans who want to see the back of the underperforming striker, this could give them hope.

Should Spurs sell Adebayor in the summer?  Or hang onto him for at least another season?
