Manchester United the favourites to land one of South America's top talents after Serie A side's turmoil

Juan Fernando Quintero has reportedly been on the radar of Manchester United for many months now and with Pescara now looking doomed to relegation after yet another managerial change you can bet he will be available in the summer.

Italian side Pescara have sacked Cristiano Bergodi after just 14 games in charge at the club. The former Pescara player took over from Giovanni Stroppa in November but after defeat against Udinese, their seventh loss in eight fixtures, his position had become untenable and he was relieved of his duties.

Last season Pescara earned promotion from Serie B under the guidance of Zdenek Zeman but any hope of his imminent return has been quashed by Italy’s one club per season rule which does not allow managers to manage more than one team in the same division over the course of a season.

The club are currently second from bottom ahead of Palermo with Siena above them in the final relegation spot; however they all currently have 21 points.

While the club is struggling at the foot of the table and looking to be on a one way trip back to Serie B that is not to say they are without talented players; one of which is Juan Fernando Quintero.

The Colombian is currently on loan at the club from his hometown club Atletico Nacional until the end of the season and his performances in Italy have earned him many potential suitors; one of which is believed to be Manchester United.

While Pescara have a first refusal on the purchase of the 20-year-old Colombian international in the summer they are expected to pay that sum before selling him on at a profit; especially if they do not manage to see off the threat of relegation.

While he started the season in exciting form he has not played 90 minutes of football since Pescara were thrashed 6-1 by Juventus due to fitness problems and a dip in his form.

Needless to say many big teams from around Europe have still been incredibly impressed with the young playmakers talent. Another exciting youngster to excel out of Colombia; many will hope he could make as big an impact as the likes of Jackson Martinez and James Rodriguez have on the continent.

While the player himself has spoken of a ‘dream’ move to Inter Milan his agent Riccardo Calleri recently dismissed such a rumour by suggesting a move abroad may be just as likely:

"He is a player who has many admirers in Italy and the big clubs would like him. However, it would be easier to see him move to a European giant seeing as he is being followed heavily by foreign sides."

In that case Manchester United may just be able to capitalise on a perfect storm and get their man.
