AVB: The Reason for Tottenham's Success

Andre Villas-Boas deserves massive praise for the way he’s brought on Tottenham Hotspur this season.

It was a year ago to the day that Andre Villas-Boas was shown the door as Chelsea manager and Spurs have bathed in the glory of that decision ever since.

There was initial scepticism when AVB first took over at White Hart Lane but he has guided the club closer to the two Manchester clubs at the top of the league and within touching distance of guaranteed Champions League football next season.

The 2-1 win over Arsenal yesterday was the icing on the cake for a boss who continues to win over Spurs fans all over England and the rest of the world on a daily basis.

The biggest change from his Chelsea days seems to be the absolute belief and loyalty that the current Spurs players have in him.

Certain players have completely changed since he walked into the club with basic emphasis on things such as defending to the death and improved performances because AVB has just put an arm around individuals and nursed their self confidence.

Gareth Bale is the perfect example of a player who was already very good, who has simply taken off due to the confidence and faith placed in him by the Portuguese coach.

The unity and team spirit which he has massively improved has created a feeling of security and safety which rubs off on the players and flourishes all the way through to the fans who may have feared the worst when Harry Redknapp originally left.

What he also deserves praise for are the little moments, the subtle decisions which have helped tight games to go in Tottenham’s favour. That has created some of the most exciting moments that Spurs have had following their club over recent seasons.

He’s shown a great ability to learn from mistakes, moving from one formula to the next until he’s hit a logical method which works for the group of players he currently has at his disposal.

The biggest challenge for him at Spurs is how to build on the club’s current success because European football is completely difference and many European sides have changed, since Spurs were in the Champions League.

Spurs will need to re-build in the summer and tool up for that challenge but if AVB is backed and brings in the right players, Spurs could be right up there with both Manchester clubs over the next couple of seasons.

Spurs fans, what are your thoughts on your club’s boss?
