Aaron Ramsey: Stick or Twist for Arsenal?

Aaron Ramsey has been under a lot of pressure through recent weeks, with a crucial game on Sunday, is it time for Arsenal to stick or twist?

Aaron Ramsey joined Arsenal from Cardiff City as a teenager and he has been one of the players under intense scrutiny recently, as Arsenal fans have had to watch the form of their team slide.

Ramsey is still a key component of the current team but the pressure and weight of expectation at the club, could cause them to consider moving him on as opposed to showing faith in him.

This is something they can do but it doesn’t have to be permanently. Ramsey has started only 11 games in the Premier League this season, which is nowhere near enough for a player of his level and ability to push on and progress to the next level.

A loan deal could be on the table ahead of next season, which would allow him to go to a club where he’s guaranteed to start, which simply isn’t the case at Arsenal at the moment.

He’s not a bad player by any means and fits the current Arsenal philosophy of pass and move football very well but he’s never really had a chance to reach the same sort of level he showed at the club, before he suffered that bad leg break.

Therefore, it’s much more likely that Arsenal will hang onto him as opposed to cutting their losses and forcing him out of the exit door.

He’s only 22-years-old and while he may be a little behind in terms of where the club wants his development to be, there are no clear signs yet that he has reached anything like his peak performance.

The only way he’s going to get better is with more games. His reading and understanding of how football works, how Arsenal work and what is expected from the club will only improve when he’s starting matches.

Arsenal could substantially make a profit on him as they originally bought him for just under the £5 million mark, but if they keep him and he does progress and get better then he could be priceless to the club in the next few years.

That is extremely significant when you consider the future of older midfielders at the club such as Mikel Arteta.

There are other players in the current Arsenal team that should be cut loss long before Ramsey is given the boot. He’s not been at his best but he’s by no means an awful player.

Stick or twist Arsenal fans? Should he start against Tottenham?
