2. 1932 - The Lindbergh baby is kidnapped from his crib at the family estate in Hopewell, New Jersey

3. 1950 - Communist spy and Nuclear scientist Klaus Fuchs is sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for espionage

4. 1954 - The US tests a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific archipelago of Bikini, part of the Marshall Islands

5. 1966 - UK Chancellor of the Exchequer James Callaghan confirms the 'historic and momentous' decision to change over to decimal coinage in 1971

6. 1968 - Johnny Cash marries June Carter

7. 1974 - Queen begin their first headlining tour of England

8. 1974 - Seven people are indicted in connection with the Watergate break-in on the charge of conspiring to obstruct justice

9. 1978 - The coffin of Charlie Chaplin is stolen from a small, unguarded village cemetery in Switzerland

10. 1994 - Fred West is charged with two further murders, following the discovery of more human remains in the garden of his Gloucester home

11. 2008 - Prince Harry, who was sent secretly to Afghanistan with his regiment in December, is forced to return to Britain following the American website The Drudge Report making his deployment public
