Could Liverpool be a realistic destination for Mignolet?

It’s completely up in the air as to whether Simon Mignolet will be a Sunderland player next season. Should Liverpool look in his direction?

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of 24-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, with no one really sure on what his future seems to hold.

He has been linked with high profile moves to Manchester United and Liverpool this season, which would undoubtedly be a step forward in his career but no one seems to know if it’s complete fabrication.

The player himself has stated that he’s very happy at Sunderland, where he’s getting a fair run of games in the side and a chance to prove his quality which links in well with his international career.

He’s got some very good numbers in his favour this season which includes 27 starts and he’s one of the only goalkeepers with over one hundred saves (104) from all matches which proves his efficiency.

However, his agent is insistent that he and his representatives are keen on a high profile move in the very near future with some top clubs sniffing around him like sharks.

This could just be agent talk because as we all know, the more deals agents are involved in, the higher the amounts of commission they get paid.

A move to Manchester United seems very unlikely because of the way David De Gea has responded to criticism throughout his time at the club.

United also spent close to £20 million on him which was a long term investment as opposed to simply bringing in a goalkeeper and then going for a quick fix shortly after his arrival.

A move to Liverpool could be much more realistic because the Anfield club do need a fresh back up goalkeeper who will provide Pepe Reina with competition.

There are sources suggesting that Reina will be off to Spain this summer but the player himself has indicated no intention of leaving, which means Mignolet may be put off by the fact he won’t be the number one at the club.

The victims in all of this are the Sunderland fans because it’s unfair that there’s a lack of clarity over the future of one of the club’s most consistent and reliable players this season.

If he does receive offers this summer then Sunderland need to take the interested party or parties to the cleaners to ensure that they get top money for a very talented player.

Do you think Mignolet will leave?
