The two top transfer targets for Real Madrid and Barcelona

Barcelona and Real Madrid could make similar transfer deals this summer but with very different results, and Tottenham's Gareth Bale is a wanted man.

The main transfer story attached to Barcelona is the arrival of Brazilian superstar Neymar while Real Madrid have been heavily linked with Gareth Bale of Spurs.

Neymar is valued at around £50 million while some sources are suggesting Bale will cost Real Madrid up to £70 million.

We could have a summer with two very similar transfer deals going through but they are completely different in terms of the effects they will have on each club.

Neymar is wanted by Barcelona because he is the exact sort of player they currently use in their first team; small, quick, good on the ball and deadly in terms of accuracy.

They will also see his presence as a way to maintain their current philosophy and style of football, which has proven to be so successful in a European context over the last few years.

It will also be very interesting to see how Neymar adapts to life at Barcelona. He’s not exactly modest or short of confidence so that extra level of pressure and attention will be intriguing to watch.

It would also be very interesting to see if Neymar could challenge the dominance of Lionel Messi in the current side and whether friction would be created due to the internal battle between the pair.

Neymar also faces the challenge of how he reacts if he’s not as successful as he thinks he may be. He’s got a current record of 14 goals in 17 league games for Santos, figures he may initially struggle to replicate at Barcelona.

The possible transfer of Bale to Real Madrid is just as interesting. The Spanish champions seem to want the Welsh winger so they effectively have a Cristiano Ronaldo on each side of the pitch.

They wouldn’t try and change things too much and it may even benefit Ronaldo who could play as an out and out centre forward, which is where he was most effective during his Manchester United days.

It’s an equally safe option for them because Bale won’t be intimidated by joining such a big side for such a big fee. After all, he was thrust into the limelight at Southampton when he was only 16-years-old.

What he may find difficult is the pressure and expectation which is jacked up big time by a move to such a huge club. He’d also be going from being the most important player at a club to one of many important players.

There would be extra pressure created by the fee it would take to get him over to Madrid in the first place and he’s not had any in depth experience of playing Spanish football.

So it’s fair to suggest that Neymar’s transfer to Barcelona would be more of a long term investment while Real Madrid would want Bale as an impact player and a bit of insurance against the risk of losing Ronaldo.

Neymar has been building up to this sort of transfer over the last couple of years while Bale has completely transformed his form this season to become one of the most desired players in the game.

How do you think they would do, IF the transfers happen?
