Good enough for Inter Milan but not West Ham?

Former Aston Villa, West Ham and Stoke City striker John Carew looks set to join Inter Milan as injury cover until the end of the season. Will the deal really go through?

Inter Milan are on the verge of completing a shock transfer swoop as Norwegian veteran John Carew looks set to join the Nerazzuri on a short-term deal until the end of the season. Inter are struggling with striking options at the moment with Diego Milito suffering an injury that looks set to keep him out until the end of the season and have been previously linked with bids for Emile Mpenza, Mido and the recently retired Dutchman Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

However now it seems they have gone for perhaps the best option available to them on the free agent market in the 33-year-old striker.

Carew has just finished filming scenes for his movie debut (yes you read that right) in Canada and is now set to undergo a medical at the Serie A club in the next 48 hours.

It does mark an incredible turnaround in fortunes for the giant striker. He was discarded by West Ham last summer after appearing fleetingly throughout their Championship campaign. He was also briefly declared bankrupt by HM Revenue and Customs to mark a rather dismal summer.

One question that is sure to be asked about his return is whether he will be match fit in time.

The former Aston Villa striker’s agent was absolutely sure he would be able to get up to speed in time; quoted as saying:

"Inter are an interesting club for him because they are one of the biggest teams in the world. Someone with John's physique would be ready to play again within a week."

Which contradicts the words of Carew himself just a month ago; when Villa fans were begging him to return to Villa.

He had mentioned in an interview with Dagbladet his desire to play for Villa again if he had the time:

‘’I would love to play for free for Villa, if I had time, even if this was something I said a little loose there and then. Aston Villa is my club there, and I still have a very good relationship with the club and the fans.’’

Which led many Villa fans to ask him directly on Twitter if he would consider such a move?

His response…

John Carew ‏@JCarew10

"@villaparktom97: @JCarew10 would you play for villa for free to help out?"I would but won't be match fit until May.. :/

Let’s see how he does in his medical before signing off on this deal then.

Do you think John Carew will really be on his way to Inter Milan?
