An important message for Daniel Levy re: Selling Gareth Bale

Daniel Levy

If Tottenham Hotspur do cash in on their star man, their chairman needs to do one thing.

There's a quite amazing spectacle happening in the Premier League, a superstar is blossoming before our eyes and it is a joy to watch.

Gareth Bale has in 2013 gone from outstanding talent to - dare we say it - world class attacker, with 11 goals in his last 10 club games.

Naturally Europe's biggest giants are hovering and weighing up summer bids, so Tottenham have a decision to make.

We have one key message for chairman Daniel Levy:

If you do sell - Make it quick.

Like ripping off a plaster quick, get it over with, and don't let the issue turn into one of the summer's longest drawn out transfer sagas.

It was the methodology Manchester United used on both occasions when they sold David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, each in the months of June, in 2003 and 2009 respectively.

When Daniel Levy sold Luka Modric to Real last summer he did the complete opposite.

He haggled and negotiated in an effort to secure extra money on the transfer deal, but what turned out to be an excellent sale for £33 million completely overshadowed the club's summer.

It is a testament to the managerial skills of Andre Villas-Boas that Spurs sit in third, but Levy did not leave the club with time to finish their transfer business - as seen by their aborted attempts to sign Joao Moutinho.

One hopes Levy has learned his lesson.

If he is going to sell Bale, which of course every Spurs fan hopes he isn't, at least get it over with and have the whole summer to spend the £50 million plus on replacements.

If he repeats his actions, holding out for £60 million, but for the transfer only to go through close to the deadline, that really will be a nightmare scenario for supporters, who care little for funds sitting in the club's coffers, but for success on the pitch.

Spurs fans do you agree? Are you worried Levy will 'do a Modric', or if he sells will he show more sense?
