Manchester United would do well to renew interest in Cabaye

Manchester United could do a lot worse than trying to sign Yohan Cabaye at the end of the season.

Yohan Cabaye is one of the best players at Newcastle United. He seems to have the perfect blend of experience and quality which makes him a big player in the team and he seems to relish the role of leading the side and the club.

Manchester United are looking for a midfield man this summer, whichever way you look at it, they need to bring someone in to cover for Paul Scholes who is not going to be playing on.

Cabaye could be that very man because there are plenty of reasons why he would be perfect for the Old Trafford club.

Firstly, at 27-years-old he’s of the age where Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn’t mind paying a decent price for him because they can still get the best years of his career out of him.

He’s also got plenty of experience in the Premier League, he’s played plenty of games for Newcastle which means there won’t be any settling in period where a new player isn’t at his best.

He’s the exact sort of player that United will be looking to put into their midfield; he’s good on the ball, rarely gives it away and isn’t afraid to launch into a tackle to disrupt a counter attack or win the ball back.

However, the most important aspect of all is Cabaye’s leadership skills. Scholes is such a figure at United, that if they didn’t replace him at the end of the season, it would have a hugely damaging effect in the side.

Cabaye can come in and maintain the leadership role he currently enjoys at Newcastle. He may not enjoy as much responsibility but that easing of pressure could work in his and United’s favour.

It’s also a proposition that he may find very difficult to turn down because of the magnitude of Manchester United and also the chance to play Champions League football, which is something he’s not going to get at Newcastle.

Cabaye is a player who has tripped Sir Alex Ferguson up in the past so he’s well known to the Old Trafford boss. It just seems pointless shelling out over £30 million for a overseas-based star when there’s a half decent Frenchman not too far away.

Manchester United fans, your thoughts please.
