It’s going to be a little bit of a lottery as to who Pep Guardiola sets his sights on this summer, as he officially takes the coaching role at Bayern Munich.
No one really knows whether he’s going to develop a style similar to the one he used at Barcelona or one which is new and unique to the Bundesliga and German football.
One target high on his agenda according to the freshest reports is Sochaux's Sebastian Corchia and if all of the rumours are true, he could do far worse.
In Bayern Munich’s last game against Werder Bremen, they used Dante at right back, someone who is much better in a central defensive position.
Therefore, we can only assume that if Guardiola is already pulling some strings behind the scenes, before he’s actually in the job then he’s told people to scout Corchia, arguably the best right back in French football.
Corchia has started every single game he has been selected for so far this season and his arrival at the Allianz Arena would give Bayern a solid and structured back four, as Philipp Lahm already owns the left back position.
It’s interesting because the natural assumption is that Guardiola will look to bring in Spanish players who he is familiar with and who will help him play ultimate football all over again.
What the interest in Corchia tells us is three things; he’s not going to look at tearing apart Barcelona for players, he’s likely to try a slightly different style and he must already have some influence at the club, as these rumours are merging under a different manager.
As a player, Corchia is certainly good enough to play for Bayern Munich. He’s young at 22-years-old and he’s very similar to Barcelona’s Dani Alves in the respect that he’s got a low centre of gravity, plenty of pace and is extremely fit.
It suggests that Guardiola may not do too much tweaking with the clearly dominant side in German football this year.
There are going to be one or two tweaks to the side because it’s a new boss coming in but the weak areas of the side, right back, has already seemingly been catered for.
However, if Corchia’s availability and price becomes common knowledge, it could spark a scramble for him as there are plenty of other sides all over Europe who may be interested in him.
Can you think of any better low profile full backs?
