Chelsea star is the first to break Bayern Munich's defence this year

Kevin De Bruyne gave Chelsea another reason to call him back from Werder Bremen yesterday with a goal against Bayern Munich.

Kevin De Bruyne has already said this season that he doesn’t want to go back to Chelsea. He’s on loan at Bundesliga side Werder Bremen and is generating stats that suggest Chelsea should get him back and give him a go in the first team.

He’s started 23 matches for the German club this season with six goals and seven assists. He bagged Werder Bremen’s only goal yesterday against Bayern Munich in a 6-1 defeat which suggests he’s relishing a high profile role.

It was a savvy goal as he drifted to the back post, making sure he was unmarked before the cross came along which enabled him to slot the ball home. It’s just a shame his side were 4-0 down at the time.

It was also the first league goal that Bayern Munich have conceded this year, home or away.

This means he shouldn’t be too phased by the pressure and expectation of playing for Chelsea and the European champions should go about talks over his future very carefully.

Plenty will say that the Belgian is just another fish in the sea as far as gifted midfield players are concerned at the West London club. However, the point is they already own him and they could do worse than giving him a run of games next season.

He could well end up snubbing Chelsea at the end of the season or getting to the point where he makes his tenure at Stamford Bridge untenable. That would be an unfortunate way for him to leave things but few would blame him if his role at the club doesn’t change.

Chelsea fans, what are your thoughts?
