Loaned out again... Is Harry Kane destined never to get his chance at Spurs?
Harry Kane seems like the model professional. He’s been on loan to several clubs, has never complained and seems genuinely happy to work his way into a first team chance with Spurs. If it ever comes.
His experience at loan spells with Leyton Orient, Millwall and Norwich City means when he does get a regular run of games for Tottenham, he’ll have a much better chance of being effective in the white shirt.
This is a young guy who has just gone on loan, again, to Leicester City having signed a new Spurs deal which runs until the summer of 2017. So you would imagine he is confident he will get his opportunity eventually.
But Spurs have made it very clear to him he has to prove himself before he gets that chance. At Norwich injuries and a lack of opportunities meant he never really prospered, so he has had to take a step down to the Football League, although he can really make a name for himself by aiding Leicester's promotion chase.
So what will Spurs fans be getting in this lad if he’s given some first team games?
He’s extremely quick and seems to like to play on the shoulder of the defence, running onto balls which are passed into space. His timing is still a little raw but if he gets this right then it presents clear one-on-one chances.
His frame still needs to bulk out a little bit which is sometimes the reason he drops off from the back four and slightly deeper into the midfield to pick up the ball.
There’s no harm in this because technically he’s good on the ball and is good in possession which mans he can link up with the other attacking players in the side.
So far he’s made four appearances for all clubs in the Premier League this season via one start and three sub appearances. He’ll be going all out to replicate his form at Orient where he scored goals at a rate greater than one in two.
Spurs could do much worse than giving him a go. But it will depend how he gets on at Leicester, and if he can outshine fellow youngster Jon Obika on loan at Charlton... and then there is the issue of who Spurs will sign in the summer to make his task more difficult.
Kane has it all to do. Not impossible, but it's a challenge.
Tottenham fans, how do you rate this lad?
