Arsenal fans can open their eyes, the worst is over... Right?

Arsene Wenger Waves

With the February collapse now more or less completed, Arsenal fans can look forward to their side producing their now traditional late burst to claim fourth, and they have the ideal opposition to start with this weekend.

Heading towards March, barring a truly extraordinary comeback in Munich, Arsenal only have the Premier League to play for. It is a situation that has become worryingly familiar to their fans, with February proving the point of many of their recent seasons where they exit all other tournaments.

However the part of the season that has usually followed these exits should give more encouragement to Arsenal fans, with their side always producing the form in the last few weeks that ensures they claim a Champions League spot for the next season.

This year many will say that it seems different, that they don't have the players or the manager to guarantee a Champions League spot, but as a Tottenham Hotspur fan you can take my word for it that this is exactly what is said every year, shortly before Arsenal start winning a lot of matches.

What is more debatable is whether fourth spot would be enough for Arsene Wenger to withstand the criticism he has faced in recent weeks. with many fans tiring of his focus on league position sometimes to the detriment of their progress in domestic cups.

However if Arsenal do finish 4th, or even 3rd, and overtake Tottenham Hotspur in doing so, you would expect that Wenger will continue at the club, and we might find ourselves exactly in this position next year. The team who should have most to fear from the fixture is Aston Villa, who might consider themselves unlucky if they do end up being the starting point of Arsenal's end of season rally.

Whilst there still might be the torment of a trip to Munich to come, although that match is already almost a no-lose scenario, Arsenal can give their season a very different complexion even before they head to Germany.

Good results against Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton would likely put them in the driving seat for fourth place, and recent history is on their side when it comes to strong finishes in the league.
