Daryl Janmaat could be the perfect replacement for Bacary Sagna at Arsenal.
Speculation surrounding the future of Bacary Sagna refuses to go away with several sources still suggesting he’ll make a switch to Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
If that does happen then it leaves a hole in the Arsenal defence which Arsene Wenger will have to work quickly to fill.
Daryl Janmaat is a 23-year-old full back currently playing in the Eredivisie for Feyenoord and he also has three caps under his belt for the Netherlands at senior level.
Considering Wenger’s transfer policy at the Gunners has always been to go after slightly lower profile targets, Janmaat could quickly find himself in the team at Arsenal and under pressure.
However, it would not be a bad signing by any means for a number of reasons.
Janmaat is a player who likes to get forward which is significant considering the always developing role of full backs in the current game.
He’s made eight starts for Feyenoord this season and has grabbed two goals in the process, which suggests he can just as effective in the attacking third as he can be defensively.
He is a little raw as a defensive player but his pace and strength is something which counters that.
One of the things which is a little worrying with this player is his disciplinary record which is not as concrete as Wenger would have liked; five yellow cards and one red card in those eight appearances this season.
However, that could just be him trying to make a positive impression at a bigger club because he only picked up two yellows and one red card for former side Herenveen last season.
Arsenal could do a lot worse than Janmaat who is around the sort of age that would appeal to Wenger, who is trying to get young players committed to the cause at the club, as he develops another side.
He’d also fit in nicely with the current financial structure at the club, which means Arsenal wouldn’t have to pay him mega money after a transfer, which keeps the business model nice and secure.
Do you think he’d be a good signing for Arsenal?
