Remember last season when Chelsea staged a stunning Champions League fightback against Napoli at Stamford Bridge?
Arsenal star Jack Wilshere incurred the wrath of many a Gooner for expressing his satisfaction at seeing the English side progress, praising Chelsea's performance. A real storm in an online teapot.
Last night Chelsea were back in action, in the Europa League, and the atmosphere wasn't quite so magical, as rebellious, with fans chanting against new manager Rafa Benitez.
The Spaniard looked all set to risk further embarrassment with Chelsea trailing 1-0 against Sparta before substitute Eden Hazard saved his blushes with a fine goal in injury time to win the tie 2-1 on aggregate.
Earlier this week we offered a criticism of Hazard, commenting that his goals and assists stats flattered his performances this season in part due to a lack of impact in big matches. Well last night he went some way to rectifying that, so fair play to him. Now it's a question of if he can finish the season strongly?
There is no denying that Hazard is capable of being a game-changer, which every team would love to have in their side. One Arsenal starlet was simply in awe of his skill and technique, and tweeted his admiration for the Belgian.
It's hard to disagree. And nobody should give the highly rated Gnabry any stick for praising a player on a team Arsenal consider a rival.
He's simply looking up to a fellow young player a few years along the development schedule than himself; and Eden Hazard is not a bad player at all to try an emulate in terms of success or style.
Can Gnabry be as good as Hazard? How good can Hazard himself become?
