Arsenal latest: Including Sagna injury and Amorebieta contract talks

News and gossip from The Emirates.

Team news now ahead of the game with Aston Villa tomorrow and Bacary Sagna will miss the game with severe pain in his legs. He has been playing through the pain barrier since October after returning to action from two broken legs. He is now expected to receive an extended period of rest ahead of the second leg of the Champions League against Bayern Munich; Carl Jenkinson will take his place in the team.

Kieran Gibbs also misses out with his thigh complaint while Nacho Monreal returns after being cup-tied for the 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in midweek.

Arsene Wenger has insisted that he never once considered quitting Arsenal during his tenure at the club. The Frenchman has been under pressure in recent months after the Gunners have performed worse than ever in the 17 years Wenger has been at the club. However when asked if he had questioned his own position over the past week he was quick to extinguish such talk.

There has been more indication that Arsenal may well have opened up discussions with Fernando Amorebieta over a potential summer move. The Venezuelan is out of contract with Athletic Bilbao at the end of the current season and is ready to move away from Spain with the Premier League his likely destination. Everton and Liverpool are also keen on signing him.

Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has spoken of his desire to finish above Arsenal this season and potentially condemn them to a season out of the Champions League. He feels that doing so would prove himself right to have left Arsenal for Manchester City in 2009 despite now playing for The Gunners local rivals?!?!

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has called for Arsene Wenger to step down. The former Gunner made over 300 appearances for the club and he fears not acting now may see Arsenal become a perennial member of the Europa League and non-European competition in a similar fashion to that of Liverpool in recent years. He also believes that Michael Laudrup could be the perfect man to replace him.

Finally and Arsenal are reportedly after Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat to replace Bacary Sagna at the end of the season. The Dutch international could replace the Frenchman who is being linked with a move away at the end of the current season. Arsenal have also been linked with Chelsea youngster Nathanial Chalobah who is currently having a superb season on loan at Watford in the Championship.
