Chelsea latest: Including Sparta Prague build up and Falcao

A round-up of news and views related to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

Rafa Benitez believes that his Chelsea side are heading in the right direction after coming through a tricky period of fixture congestion. Chelsea go into tonight’s game aiming for a fourth win in a row in all competitions, and Benitez is keen for the team to maintain their momentum:

“We are still improving a lot of things but you also have to win games. As soon as you lose or draw, everything changes.

"But the team is working very hard, the staff are working very hard and I think we're going in the right direction."

Demba Ba has insisted he is not worried at the prospect of Chelsea bringing in more strikers in the summer, with the Senegalese striker saying he expects competition, and won’t be pushed around.

The agent of Hamburg striker Heung-Min Son has confirmed that both Chelsea and Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing the 20 year old. Thies Bliemeister said that Inter were also looking at the player, but he couldn’t say if a summer move was likely at this stage:

"A transfer in the next summer? He has signed a new contract with Hamburg SV extending it for one year, but there have been many offers for him as from Manchester United and Chelsea."

Falcao has suggested that he currently considers seeing out the three years left on his contract at Atletico Madrid as his best option, despite interest from clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid. The prolific striker also reiterated his desire to seal a Champions League place with the Spanish side this season.

On HITC today Mathew Nash reviews the progress of English sides in the NextGen series yesterday, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur going through away at Barcelona and PSG respectively, whilst Liverpool were hammered 4-0 by Sporting Lisbon.

In an interview with the Evening Standard, David Luiz has said that whilst he might sometimes joke around with his teammates, he is fully committed to ensuring as much success as possible at Chelsea when he’s on the pitch:

“I know what is important. When I go to the pitch I cannot laugh, I respect the other players. I try my best and put my passion inside the game.

“I like to have fun but there are moments you need to show yourself and that for me is on the pitch.”

The Chilean youngster Cristian Cuevas has confirmed he will join Chelsea after the U20 World Cup in June/July. The 17 year old recently impressed at the U20 South American Championships.
