Everton latest: Featuring Moyes future fears and Youth Cup 'buzz'

All the news and gossip relating to Everton FC from the past week.

A lot of the talk surrounding Everton over the past few days has revolved around the future of their manager David Moyes. Last week the Scot announced he would make a decision on his future at the end of the season; when his current deal expires. Today Everton legend Neville Southall has admitted he fears for the future of Moyes at Everton; believing that the failure to be competitive in the January transfer window may have been the final nail in his management coffin.

Meanwhile the likes of Kevin Mirallas and Sylvain Distin have been vocal in their praise for Moyes and reiterated the rhetoric that many an Evertonian feels about his future at the club; that he should stay.

Leighton Baines has voiced his belief that Everton need to start learning how to win games ugly. The club have struggled all season to earn three points from games with a high rate of draws in their Premier League campaign. He feels they need to dig in and grind out results in order to achieve their goal of Champions League qualification; and that those qualities will be necessary at Carrow Road this weekend in the Premier League tie with Norwich City.

Everton have defeated Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup. Kevin Sheedy’s men beat their North London rivals 4-2 on Monday night to advance to the sixth round of the competition and he admitted that there has been a ‘buzz’ around the squad since their success.

Everton youngster John Lundstram has been given the chance to play some first team football by agreeing a one-month loan deal at League One side Doncaster Rovers. The 19-year-old is currently captain of the England under-19 side and signed a full-time professional contract with the Merseyside club in 2010.

Everton legend Tony Hibbert has been sent a bizarre birthday card by members of a Norwegian Everton fanclub. The right-back has been a one-club-man and achieved cult status on Merseyside for his efforts in an Everton shirt but he must still have been surprised to receive a birthday card on his 32nd birthday with his face embossed on a famous New York City landmark with the tag-line ‘The Statue of Hibberty’.

And on the site this week we have looked at the potential for Shane Duffy to start featuring for the first team on a regular basis; how Maraoune Fellaini’s hair seems to be getting him into trouble as well as Ross Barkley’s potential to play international football … for Nigeria!

We also look at the battle with Liverpool to sign Dejan Lovren from Lyon in the summer and how Royston Drenthe has admitted David Moyes ‘opened his eyes’ during his stint at Goodison Park.
