News and gossip from The Emirates in the past 24 hours.
Arsene Wenger’s future will not be on the agenda at the monthly board meeting today. Many of the main players on the Arsenal board will be in attendance including majority shareholder Stan Kroenke. However there will be no special show of support for the Frenchman as the support is reportedly already there and is therefore not a necessary course of action despite his future being questioned in the press recently.
One of Arsenal’s most prominent supporters group, the Arsenal Supporters Trust, has called for wholesale changes at the board level of the club rather than punishing Arsene Wenger. The group believes some fresh blood is needed on the board as currently every non-executive director at the club is over 70-years-old; which they feel is a problem in the running of a modern day football club.
In a more sensational story from today’s papers and former Mayor of Barnet Brian Coleman has announced he had sex with an Arsenal striker. Coleman was once the highest paid councillor in the UK made the statement in an unrelated blog in rather blasé fashion when speaking about the chances of Barnet surviving relegation from the Football League he mentioned the shocking revelation. The openly gay 51-year-old gave no hint about who the player involved may have been and when the incident took place.
In transfer gossip ahead of the summer transfer window The Daily Mirror believes that Arsenal will use the bulk of the £70 million warchest available to them to purchase Victor Wanyama from Celtic, Etienne Capoue from Toulouse and Fiorentina’s Montenegrin striker Stevan Jovetic.
The Daily Mail however believes that names such as Mario Gotze of Borussia Dortmund and Pepe Reina of Liverpool should also be added to the list of potential targets as Wenger prepares to make sweeping changes to his struggling side this summer.
The same paper also believes that Arsenal will be keeping a close eye on Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons in the Europa League tie with Tottenham Hotspur tonight after tracking him for many months. They sent scouts to watch him play in the 4-0 win against Bordeaux this weekend and will be impressed by his performance tonight; as he scored for the French outfit.
Arsenal backup keeper Vito Mannone has stated he may seek a move back to Italy in order to kickstart his career. The stopper had a spell in the first team at the start of the season due to injuries but is now firmly second choice at The Emirates.
And finally Franck Ribery has put the boot in on Arsenal after playing a key role in beating The Gunners 3-1 at The Emirates on Tuesday night. He has now stated that the Bayern players were surprised at how ‘easy’ they found victory considering the quality Arsenal possess.
