NextGen Preview: Tottenham youngsters face top seeds Paris Saint-Germain in final 16

Tottenham Alex Pritchard

Spurs can book a date with Aston Villa in the quarter-finals of the competition if they pick up a win against the tournaments best team so far PSG of France; and they will have to do it without star player Alex Pritchard.

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to emulate the performance of Aston Villa in the hope of playing them in the quarter-finals of the NextGen Series.

In order to do so however they will have to beat the team ranked as number one in the second round of the draw; Paris Saint-Germain.

Spurs will take some solace in the fact that one of Les Parisiens Jeune best players Adrien Rabiot will not feature as he is now on loan at Toulouse. Regardless the team is still very strong with the likes of Alvin Arondel, Hervin Ongenda and Abdallah Yaisien all ready to cause Spurs serious problems.

As for Spurs they have also lost several big names to loan deals. Their undisputed star player in the competition so far is Alex Pritchard. He joined Peterborough United on loan in January and is currently crocked with an ankle injury. Meanwhile Souleymane Coulibaly has gone back to Italy on a loan spell with U.S Grosseto while Tomislav Gomelt has joined up with Espanyol until the end of the campaign.

Therefore there will be an extra reliance on the likes of Shaq Coulthirst, Kenneth McEvoy and Nabil Bentaleb to produce the goods in the competition.

It has been a strange campaign for Spurs; going from outplaying Barcelona in the Nou Camp to capitulating against Anderlecht at Hotspur Way but they have boasted an unbeaten away record this season so the trip to Paris may prove beneficial for the team.

PSG have already faced English competition this season when they dispatched Manchester City both home and away with relative ease; which is likely to trouble the Spurs team.

However Aston Villa were not expected to beat Ajax yesterday and did so comfortably proving the competition is an open book and after the disappointment of having to forfeit their place in the competition last season Spurs will hope to surpass expectations on this occasion.
