David Silva is on Real Madrid’s radar according to latest reports. Here are some possible deals if they’re willing to let him return to Spain.
David Silva has been one of the most important players for Manchester City ever since he got off the plane, went into Eastlands and signed a contract.
However, the rumour mill is spinning and talking up the possibility of Real Madrid giving him an option to return to Spain. There are several options City can look at.
If City want to go for a straight up cash deal then reports are suggesting they can net around £25 million to £30 million for a player of Silva’s quality which seems perfectly reasonable and viable.
However, given the resources City have at their disposal, they don’t need the money. A straight cash deal would have to probably be much higher than the £30 million mark for City to let him leave.
A swap deal for Luka Modric is possible considering the Croatian midfielder is not first choice under Jose Mourinho. Modric has made 12 starts and seven appearances from the bench in La Liga this season.
He is a similar type of player to Silva who does have experience of Premier League football from his days with Spurs. This would appeal to Roberto Mancini, or whoever replaces him, and is something that would allow a Silva deal to go through.
It would be more difficult for Manchester City to push for a deal including Mesut Ozil because he seems to be a more first choice player for Real Madrid. It’s also arguable that he’s a better player than Silva.
This changes things because it would mean City may have to include cash into a deal, which makes it difficult as Real Madrid may not be willing to let Ozil leave in the first place.
This is a very possible option considering City’s lack of a strong and imposing player to protect the defence and the rest of the midfield. Yaya Toure’s role at City is now more advanced which means the club could use someone like Khedira in a slightly deeper role.
Again a straight up swap deal may not be possible and Khedira’s contract with the Spanish champions runs for another two years so City may try and negotiate for him around a time Real Madrid are looking to renew his terms.
However, if they’re not looking to renew his terms then it may be the perfect time for them to offload him for Silva.
Which of the options would you choose for Silva?
