Manchester United fans react on Twitter to Anderson performance in FA Cup

Manchester United progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup thanks to a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford last night.

Goals from substitute Nani, and Chicharito set them on their way against Reading before Jobi McAnuff pulled one back with the game ending 2-1.

The match was an opportunity for a number of second string players who did not feature against Real Madrid to stake their claims for a starting spot in the return.

With Phil Jones picking up an injury - Sir Alex Ferguson says he is unlikely to make Saturday's game away to QPR, but says he will need further assessment before further forecasts are made - there could well be a spot against Madrid up for grabs.

Among those who had a chance to impress was Brazilian midfielder Anderson, who last week was the centre of controversy regarding his United's future when quotes appeared in his homeland saying he would leave the club in the summer, before denying making such comments.

He's only made 10 appearances in the Premier League this season, and is running out of opportunities to stake his claim even to be part of the squad next year, so did he take it?

United supporters on Twitter were split over his display; here's what they had to say...

@tomsimpson88: Rate him or you don't, Anderson gives us drive though the middle that no other player gives us. #MUFC

@motwi86: If only Anderson could last 90 mins, he has been our best performer.#mufc

@shigham77: Decent run out from anderson, probably our best after jones went off#mufc

@eggmoustache: Anderson should spend less time rehearsing goal celebrations and more time ensuring his BMI stays below 30. #lazy #MUFC

@mr_mooresaid: Anderson looked good! Would love to see him get a run in the side!#MUFC

@hoggking17: Anderson and cleverly have been outstanding tonight. The future is bright at Manchester United #mufc

@alexcrook: @alex_crook: Anderson has impressed me tonight. I Can't be the only person in the world who rates him #minority #mufc

@martinmorris99: Anderson goes off to get tested for traces of Neil Webb DNA #MUFC

@zakamos: @ZakAmos: Anderson. You are terrible #mufc"

@sufailhanfi: De Gea (when called), Vidic, Buttner, Anderson, Chicha, Nani were unplayable. They bullied Reading when had ball #mufc

@ronannnnnn: Anderson looking like a player leaving in the summer to me #mufc

@mikewarburton: nothing new learnt, but for me the following are NOT Utd players:Anderson, Smalling, Buttner. Sell them. #MUFC

@aanuyajayi: The two most naturally gifted players in the #MUFC squad (Anderson and Nani)are villyfied by the fans. I have no idea why.

And check out this great pic of him celebrating...

What did you think of Anderson's display, and his future at the club?
