Tottenham Hotspur latest: Early Lyon talk and striker targets

All the Tottenham Hotspur related news and gossip.

With Tottenham having a weekend off due to their fourth round FA Cup elimination, it's been a quiet few days around White Hart Lane. Eyes are already looking to the next game, their Europa League second leg against Lyon which takes place this Thursday.

Former Lyon goalkeeper and Spurs current first choice, Hugo Lloris sat out the 2-1 home win, but has been talking about his excitement at travelling back to France for the return fixture.

"It could almost be a Champions League game between two top sides in Europe. For us, it’s a good test to play against a good team, we have a chance and we have to take it."

Lyon warmed up for the clash with a clinical 4-0 win over Bordeaux at the weekend, but William Gallas says he is not worried by the task ahead, arguing Spurs' away form stands them in good stead and should hold no fear.

“If we put them under pressure straight away they will be wary because if they concede a goal, they will be in trouble."

Belgian newspaper Niewsblad claimed at the weekend that Tottenham are leading the chase for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke. The forward cost Villa £7 million in August. Chances of signing him, and price, will depend on Villa retaining Premier Leahue status or not.

The striker Tottenham should sign however is this man: Jackson Martinez has bagged 22 goals in 25 games since signing for Porto, and we've put forward the case why he is the striker to solve Spurs' troubles in attack this summer.

We have taken another look at loanee Heurelho Gomes' stint at Hoffenheim. It's going well, apart from his penchant for conceding early goals. In this three games for the club to date he has conceded in the third, fourth, and eighth minute of matches, with the most recent seeing his relegation threatened side going down 1-0.

Another loanee, Danny Rose, says he is happy with life on Wearside, with Sunderland feeling like home. He previously stated he had no intention of returning to Spurs to sit on the bench, and a summer transfer appears increasingly likely.

And finally, a face from the past... ex-Spurs defender Pascal Chimbonda is on trial with Chicago Fire in MLS as he bids to revive his career.
