Arsene Wenger had to hold himself back from unleashing at the press before tomorrow’s match against Bayern Munich.
Arsene Wenger sat down to take questions ahead of the Bayern Munich game tomorrow but unsurprisingly he was ambushed with questions relating to his future and the defeat against Blackburn Rovers over the weekend.
Wenger clearly had to resist the urge to rip into certain members of the press, clearly upset over stories which have apparently been fabricated to do Arsenal harm and simply speculate over his future at the club.
He respectfully saw off the questions about Blackburn, pointing out Arsenal’s statistical dominance which quite rightly suggests they didn’t play poorly despite losing the game.
Wenger rightly pointed out that he’s been a manager in England’s top division for 16 years and doesn’t deserve to be treated by the press in a devious or underhand way.
He seemed to be more upset with the speculation surrounding whether he would sign a new deal rather than the fact there’s talk about a new contract offer on the table for the French coach.
It creates a feeling of sympathy for a man who has made Arsenal what they are today. Fair enough, they aren’t as strong as they once were but he’s still very much the main man until he, or the club, says otherwise.
