La Liga

Is this former Barcelona and Real Madrid forward on his way to Seattle?

Javier Saviola could be the next high profile star set for the challenge of Major League Soccer.

No disrespect to the MLS but what a slide the career of Javier Saviola seems to have taken.

He started his senior career at River Plate before a high profile move to Barcelona. He never quite cut the grade at the Nou Camp despite a decent record of 49 goals in 123 matches.

He spent time on loan at Monaco and Sevilla before a move to Real Madrid before he ended up at Benfica and ultimately Malaga.

Now, he could be on his way to Seattle to follow the likes of David Beckham and Thierry Henry into the wonderful world of the MLS.

He’s 31-years-old so he could be tempted into a lucrative move to the United States if Malaga are unhappy to offload him at the end of this season for financial reasons.

There is no doubt that his experience and his record in European football means anything other than he could be quite prolific in the USA and the recent high profile move of other stars suggests the MLS is changing for the better.

Whichever way you look at it, it’s a massive step down from the quality of La Liga but the Seattle Sounders already have several Spanish speaking players on their books.

He was never quite the same after his spells with River Plate and Barcelona. He’s always enjoyed a high profile at any club he’s been to and the euphoria over a possible move to Seattle would guarantee just that.

Do you think Saviola should head off to the MLS?
