Can Bojan do a Fabregas?

Fabregas Barcelona

Cesc Fabregas has urged Bojan to copy his career path and return to Barcelona.

Some wouldn’t have been surprised that Bojan fell through the net at Barcelona, leaving the club in 2011 to go and play for Roma before securing a loan deal to play at AC Milan.

More would have been surprised that such a top quality player left the Spanish giants but Cesc Fabregas is the perfect example that Bojan could one day find his way back to the Nou Camp.

Fabregas left Barcelona to join Arsenal and made his debut at just 16-years-old before he was later sold back to the club as one of the best midfield players in the world.

It’s an experience which has given him the right to suggest that a player as good as Bojan could make the exact same career path, all be it slightly different from his own.

“I hope Bojan will return one day. When he was here before, he was too young to stand out. But I think now he has matured enough to do well at Barcelona,” Fabregas told Marca.

It’s not too far away to from the situation Fabregas found himself in with the exception that he was a lot younger than Bojan when he first left Spain.

No one can blame Bojan for leaving the club because considering the ample talent at Barcelona, if he’d stayed then he could easily have remained a fringe player for the rest of his career.

He was also brought up in and around that youth system, effectively learning perfect football which would have made it very difficult to go to any other Spanish club in La Liga.

However, Bojan has a long way to go before he can start thinking about a move back to the Spanish side because he’s not even a first team regular at Roma yet.

That has to be his first aim and once he’s in that side he shouldn’t be afraid to set his sights on replacing Xavi or Andres Iniesta at the Nou Camp, who are both likely to consider retirement around the time Bojan is a much more complete player.

Yes, they are not strikers but if Bojan does want to go back to Barcelona then he needs to be realistic and adapt his game to give himself a better chance. After all, he is not going to replace Lionel Messi as the main striker at the club.
