QPR, Everton, Arsenal and a litany of English clubs were reportedly after Yann M’Vila this January and in general he has been a target for many a season. However despite his club Rennes agreeing a fee with both QPR and Everton he decided his future lay elsewhere; in Russia.
He shocked everyone when he decided to move to Rubin Kazan instead of the English Premier League but insisted that the move was not financially motivated but rather he wanted to escape the scrutiny and attention he currently receives in his homeland.
The French international may have been telling the truth.
He has always had a way of getting into trouble and is currently serving a lengthy ban from the national team for reportedly being at the centre of organising a night out while on duty with the French under-21 team and he was also reportedly the victim of a robbery by two prostitutes in 2011.
Now he finds himself at the centre of another storm as many French sources are carrying the story of his most recent misdemeanour which takes on a much seedier affair.
It was recently announced that a French international football player was being investigated for soliciting for prostitution and it has now been revealed that the player in question may well be M’Vila.
While there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that he actually had a sexual relationship with the girl, who was 15 at the time, the question revolves around ‘explicit’ photos and text messages. They were found on the girl, now 16, after she was arrested for shoplifting in November last year and an unnamed Saint Etienne player has also reportedly been implicated in the affair.
While no official word has been released on the matter and therefore M’Vila must be presumed innocent and potentially the victim of his own reputation it will provide an unwelcome distraction as the Frenchman, who has just recovered from a knee injury, travels with his new team to take on Atletico Madrid on Thursday night.
The case rings resonance with a similar one involving Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema from last year and is yet another scar on Les Bleus.
The story is still young and may prove to be nothing but Premier League clubs will still be glad they dodged the bullet on the trouble making Frenchman.
Are you glad you didn’t sign Yann M’Vila?
