Lazar Markovic has been linked with Chelsea, but a move is yet to be confirmed. So far the story echoes another target. Will this pursuit be more successful?
There has been a lot of fevered speculation about Chelsea signing Lazar Markovic over the past week, stemming from Serbia and misinterpreted by other websites.
But so far no deal has been made despite his visit to Stamford Bridge, as confirmed by the player yesterday.
"It is true. I was in London, I toured around London and I was also at Stamford Bridge," he told Sportski Zurnal.
"I met my team-mate from national team Branislav Ivanovic, we talked a little bit.
"I also met people from Chelsea, but it is not true that I have signed anything yet or something like that. There is no contract, not a even a pre-contract.
"I had a great time there but it is far from being over."
Chelsea fans should be advised not to get their hopes up too much too soon.
The 18-year-old is a supreme talent, who has already broken into the Partizan Belgrade side, and featured in the international set up.
But recent history, of just a month ago, indicate Chelsea shouldn't get ahead of themselves.
Here is what Brazilian winger Taison had to say on January 2:
"I went to England (some weeks ago) just to take a look. I talked to the president," he told Diario Popular.
He added: "I see Oscar, who I played alongside at Internacional, and I want to play with him again."
Chelsea appear to be making a habit of inviting their transfer targets over the view Stamford Bridge and the training facilities, and were even reported to be making Falcao a similar offer.
But it is no guarantee a player will sign for them. Chelsea still have to negotiate with Partizan, with a fee still some way off.
This was shown in their efforts to sign Taison, they were outbid by Shakhtar and he ended up signing for them.
Inter Milan have also been linked with Markovic, and he will be on the radar of several top European teams.
As Taison showed, Markovic's visit may end up being just that, a tour of London and a chance to see a compatriot from the national team.
What do you think of Chelsea' transfer strategy?
