Celtic 0-3 Juventus: Celtic Player Ratings

Celtic were trounced 3-0 by Italian giants in their last 16 first leg at Celtic Park. We rate the Celtic players.

Celtic can feel a little hard done by this morning because for large parts of the match last night, they were magnificent. They piled on the pressure and only some naïve defending let them down. Here are our ratings for the match.

Forster: 6 – For large parts of the game he didn’t really have much to do. Could maybe have got a stronger hand on Juventus’ second goal.

Izaguirre: 6 – Flew up from full back well to provide support to the attack when they needed it. Maybe a little slow getting back which left space in behind.

Ambrose: 4 – He was running on adrenaline after appearing in the AFCON final and it showed. Made basic errors including one which led to Juve’s first goal.

Wilson: 5 – Defended his space well but just seemed a little off the pace and slow whenever Juve built pressure on the counter attack.

Mulgrew: 5 – Got forward well when he needed to, to provide an extra wide option, got dominated down his side of the pitch on more than one counter attack.

Lusting: 6 – He looked very calm and composed when the ball got fired to him in advanced positions. His final ball was a little disappointing.

Brown: 6 – Did what he does best, generally making a nuisance of himself in the middle of the pitch. Booked late on as frustration started to boil over.

Commons: 7 – Thought he was superb up until the point he got taken off. Looked like a main threat in attack and could easily have grabbed a brace with some decent half chances.

Forrest: 6 – Did the best he possibly could but lacks that little bit of quality in the final third which makes a difference in a game like this.

Wanyama: 6 – Typically powerful performance through the middle of the pitch, mopping up when Celtic lost the ball in Juve’s defensive third.

Hooper: 6 – Made a right nuisance of himself in front of the goalkeeper but that’s about the only time he looked dangerous.

Matthews: 5 – Did a decent job when he replaced the injured Lustig. Pretty much mirrored his performance.

Watt: N/A – Didn’t really have the time to get into the game.

Kayal: N/A – As above.
