Arsenal’s record goal-scorer Thierry Henry has declared how upset it makes him to hear constant criticism of Arsene Wenger. The current Arsenal boss brought him into North London from Juventus in 1999 and he went on to become a club legend before leaving for Barcelona in 2007. Now at New York Red Bulls he also stated he would like to return to Arsenal at some point in the near future perhaps in an ambassadorial role as opposed to playing.
Arsenal scouts were in attendance as Celtic were defeated by Juventus 3-0 last night to observe the Glasgow sides dynamic midfielder Victor Wanyama. The Kenyan is reportedly a summer target for both Arsenal and Manchester United and despite the result performed admirably in a game which Celtic bizarrely dominated. It is believed he will be a long overdue replacement for Alex Song who left for Barcelona last summer.
Arsenal legend Pat Rice may not have won many accolades in his final years at the club but he certainly has now. The former Arsenal player and assistant manager was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Years Honours List at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. The Northern Irishmen was ‘delighted and honoured’ to be receiving the award and Arsene Wenger also paid tribute to the man.
Theo Walcott has been talking today about how Arsenal need to stand up and be counted in the FA Cup game with Blackburn Rovers this weekend. Wenger will take a mixed strength side with one eye on the Champions League tie with Bayern Munich next week and injuries to the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Jack Wilshere. Walcott however maintains that the club wants to go far in the competition and that whoever gets picked for the game must give it their all in the pursuit of silverware.
Meanwhile Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has given himself a scathing self-assessment in regards to his recent performances. The French international impressed as a makeshift centre back last weekend against Sunderland but he admits he is ‘not very happy’ with his recent performances. He believes it could be down to missing pre-season due to a broken leg and believes in time he will be back to his best.
Fiorentina are reportedly ready to chase Southampton star Gaston Ramirez this summer; leaving the door open for Stevan Jovetic to move to Arsenal. The Uruguayan has shown glimpsed of his class at St Marys this season but has also suffered with injury issues. Fiorentina already have Giuseppe Rossi pencilled in for a March comeback and are preparing for the Montenegrin’s imminent exit.
