'See you tomorrow' - Cristiano Ronaldo tweets Wayne Rooney

Cristiano Ronaldo has 'welcomed' his former teammate ahead of Manchester United's visit to the Bernabeu.

Manchester United face Real Madrid in under 24 hours time, and for Cristiano Ronaldo it will be a chance to catch up with old friends.

Wayne Rooney is more than that, he is a strike partner, a young man he grew up with, and a foe too.

Who can remember their infamous clash on the pitch in Gelsenkirchen in 2006 when England took on Portugal.

Wayne Rooney was sent off for a stamp on Ricardo Carvalho and Cristiano Ronaldo enraged English fans and media by winking at the referee once the red card had been shown.

Now as they prepare to do battle once again for club instead of country, Ronaldo has issued a friendly welcome to his old teammate via Twitter.

It was in response to Rooney's Facebook post, which said: Can't wait for tomorrow night. It will be nice to see Ronnie again!

Will they be quite so cordial on the pitch tomorrow? Or will it be all out war?
