Roman Abramovich needs to let this one go

It has been claimed that Chelsea still want to sign Willian. They would be better off placing their attentions elsewhere.

According to The People, Chelsea are still harking after Brazilian attacker Willian.

That is despite the forward signing for Russian club Anzhi Machachkala in a £30 million deal from Shakhtar.

More specifically, the paper reported that Roman Abramovich is still set on landing the player, and has not ruled out making a bid in the summer or even next January.

Willian is a great player, but he is not what Chelsea need right now, or likely in a year's time.

He is a versatile attacking player, but if they were to sign him,  then there could be more of an uncertain future for several players trying to break through.

African Nations Cup hero Victor Moses is at the front of the queue, but is not holding down a regular spot by any means.

Kevin de Bruyne is off at Werder Bremen on loan but set to return, while Marko Marin is still trying to find form. Then there is Thorgan Hazard on loan in Belgium.

The triumvirate of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar do not look to be going anywhere fast either, and nor should they, so Chelsea should try to utilise their already burgeoning supporting cast, rather than spending £30 million even if he is a fantastic talent.

Chelsea will sooner or later have to take into account Financial Fair Play regulations, which won't stop them spending big bucks, but it will mean they have to be sensible where they spend it.

This means if they need a striker to replace Torres, and a defender to groom as John Terry's successor; that is where they should spend the £30 million. Or in midfield on Marouane Fellaini to compensate for Frank Lampard's inevitable departure.

Those are all priorities, and Anzhi won't want to sell Willian soon anyhow, so instead of wasting time pursuing the player, Roman Abramovich needs to get his manager situation sorted; and then find players for the above listed positions.

Only then should he even consider spending big on a luxury they don't need.

Should Chelsea forget Willian and concentrate on priorities? Who should be Benitez' replacement?
