Liverpool latest: Including Mendoza trial and Ancelotti 'revelation'

TalkSport has reported that Liverpool were one of two clubs who approached Carlo Ancelotti last November. Liverpool started the season poorly and TalkSport has suggested French media sources confirmed that Liverpool were considering a swoop for the former Chelsea boss.

Liverpool are set to cash in on Malaga’s financial problems with a £3 million bid for Chilean midfielder Manuel Iturra. Iturra is being tipped for a move to Liverpool with Spanish sources claiming the side are interested and the 28-year-old could be available after Malaga admitted they can’t pay their players.

Jordan Henderson says Liverpool’s Europa League tie against Zenit St Petersburg this week is a chance for the team to bounce back. Henderson was in the Liverpool side which lost 2-0 at home in the Premier League to West Brom last night after dominating large spells of the match.

Liverpool’s managing director Ian Ayre has admitted the club are worried about racist abuse in the Europa League tie at Zenit St Petersburg this Thursday. Liverpool have several young black players who may not respond well to set of supporters who could well be considered the most racist in Europe.

Daniel Agger responded to criticism from Liverpool fans last night by admitting he deserved it. Agger was visually being criticised by sections of Liverpool supporters after the defeat to West Brom and he’s admitted that it was all justified and he didn’t play as well as he can.

Liverpool have handed a trial to Danish goalkeeper Kevin Ray Mendoza. Should they decide to offer him a permanent contract it could well be further proof, that current number one Pepe Reina is on his way at the end of the season. Reina has been linked with a move to Barcelona.

Liverpool owner John Henry has been talking about balancing ownership of two sports franchises. Henry is also the owner of the Boston Red Sox baseball team and says Liverpool are a distraction from that commitment, which is one of the reasons he’s not been seen in England since last May.

Liverpool have been ruled out of the running for fourth place by the writers behind the Liverpool Echo, one of Merseyside’s best local papers. The Echo suggest Liverpool’s dismal early season form has meant recent improved performances have been rendered pointless.

Liverpool have once again been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan. Liverpool were reportedly keen to sign him earlier in the season but the links went could, until now. However, Turan has never said he wants to move away from the La Liga title chasers.
