Football League Transfer Talk: Including Wickham and Howard

Sheffield Wednesday

Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham City and Bristol City all feature.

Wolves boss Dean Saunders has vowed to improve the club’s defence following the 2-2 draw against Leeds United over the weekend. Wolves had led the match before a late equaliser saved them from suffering a defeat and Saunders says it’s an area of the team he wants to correct.

Sunderland striker Connor Wickham has revealed that he sees his loan move to Sheffield Wednesday as a major step in his career. He’s talked about his excitement at playing for the team and believes he can use the loan spell to become a much better player.

Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland says he is open to a move to Chelsea at some point in the future. Butland is on loan at Birmingham from Stoke City having rejected the chance to join Chelsea last month, as he didn’t think it would serve the best interests of his career.

Bristol City boss Sean O’Driscoll has revealed he is looking to sign former Sheffield United and Reading midfielder Brian Howard at some point this week. O’Driscoll seems to have targeted Howard as one of the players he is demanding to try and get Bristol City out of relegation trouble.

Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle says the club will use the loan window to strengthen their Championship status. Huddersfield are still establishing themselves as a League One side and their boss has revealed they will be looking to add loan players while the loan window is open.

Blackpool’s search for a new boss goes on after they failed to convince Owen Coyle to leave Bolton. Blackpool are not switching their attention to trying to sign Mark Robins from Coventry City. However, he turned down the chance to manage Blackpool last month.

Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway has criticised the current loan system used in England. Holloway was unhappy with the number of players Watford had on loan from Udinese in the wake of the club’s 2-2 draw against their Championship opponents over the weekend.
