Arsenal fans nightmare! Robin van Persie lifting the Premier League trophy at the Emirates?

Van Persie Training

Robin van Persie made a brave choice in leaving Arsenal for Manchester United, but it is paying off.

The most rewarding choice often come hand-in-hand with the toughest decisions, just ask Robin van Persie.

The way he left Arsenal will no doubt leave a bitter taste in the mouths of Gunners fans, moving to a team which was not so long ago such a bitter rival of theirs.

Right now, United and Van Persie are playing for different objectives; the Dutchman is homing in on the Premier League title, while the Gunners are hoping to finish in fourth, but like last year at this stage trail Tottenham.

The stunning form of Van Persie last season helped Arsenal overhaul Spurs and even finish in third, but a big-spending Chelsea have made Arsenal's chances even more difficult this time around.

Van Persie's choice still sticks in the throat of Arsenal supporters, and rightly so - they stuck by him through his injury troubles, and early disciplinary issues - only to be 'repaid' by him upping and leaving to join United.

But even the most ardent Gooner should not begrudge that Van Persie, from a personal point of view, is currently bettering himself with his move to United.

The Red Devils are currently 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League and appear destined to win their 20th title come May.

It could even be sooner. When Arsenal host United in April, wouldn't it be a cruel twist of fate if a result for United that day saw United crowned champions?

The fixture is scheduled for April 27th; after that United face three Premier League matches in May, against Chelsea, Swansea and West Brom.

Essentially United need to reach the match at the Emirates with an advantage of 10 points over Manchester City. (Currently it is 12). If they then win that match, or equal City's result at home to West Ham, it will be enough to clinch the title.

Right now it's a real possibility, and on current form don't bet against Van Persie scoring the goal to secure it.

Now that would be a sickener for every Gooner. For United it may just be revenge for 2002.

Could it happen? Will Van Persie clinch the title at the Emirates?
