Aston Villa - Time to recall Nathan Delfouneso?

Nathan Delfouneso is currently on loan at Blackpool but should Aston Villa recall him to aid their Premier League survival bid?

Nathan Delfouneso has enjoyed a bit of a mixed bag at Aston Villa since he signed his first senior contract in 2008. So far he’s been farmed out on loan and never really given the chance to make it in the first team.

Villa are in trouble and Paul Lambert has resorted to making inferior transfers in order to give the side a chance of climbing up the league when they already own a talented player who can help them do just that.

There seems to be far too much reliance on Christian Benteke at Aston Villa this season and with Darren Bent seemingly out of the equation, Delfouneso could be a good alternative option in attack.

He’s got a one in three ratio for Blackpool this season in terms of the goals he’s scored against games started and he’s also weighed in with some vital assists for the Tangerines in crucial matches.

He’s not the sort of high profile and prolific striker who would be ideal for Aston Villa but if the club can’t spend money and don’t have too many attacking options then where is the harm in recalling him?

It’s certainly in his best interests to try and make a mark should Aston Villa recall him because even though he’s at Blackpool, if the ship sinks this season then he will go down with it.

It’s an option worth trying because at the moment Villa are locked in a relegation battle and time is running out.

Delfouneso’s pace and skill running the channels is an asset which will compliment other players at the club, like Benteke, who like to get into the opposition penalty area and attack the ball, as they look to score goals.

What do Aston Villa have to lose? Recalling him means they have one more good attacking option in their squad and a player who has Aston Villa in his blood.

It’s this sort of relationship with the club’s identity which will make a player like Delfouneso try a little bit harder and go that one step further when time is running out. Villa need all hands on deck right now, and they stand little to gain from having him out on loan.

Delfouneso also knows that if he can do well for Aston Villa then he has a great chance of getting back into the fringes of the national team setup which has never been a more exciting group to be part of.

Is Nathan Delfouneso the answer?
