Football League Transfer Talk: Including Odemwingie and Afobe

Crystal Palace, Millwall, Brighton and Leicester City all feature.

Ian Holloway is staying mute over speculation that Peter Odemwingie could join Crystal Palace. Odemwingie is being tipped to join the Championship side on loan for the rest of the season but Holloway has admitted it’s down to the chairman to sort out and something he doesn’t know about.

Millwall have confirmed the loan signing of Benik Afobe on loan. The Arsenal front man joins the Championship side on a deal which lasts until the end of the season. He’s spent the first half of the season on loan at Bolton Wanderers scoring just three goals.

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet has ruled out making any more signings during the loan window. Poyet signed three players permanently last month and drafted in Matt Upson on a loan deal to cover the second half of the current Championship campaign.

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson is refusing to comment on the future of 20-year-old Jeff Schlupp. Schlupp has been on trial with Manchester United for the last three weeks and speculation is growing that United will try and work out a deal with Leicester to go through in the summer.

Chris Powell has played down links suggesting a move for Millwall’s Danny N’Guessan is imminent. The striker is thought to be keen on a move away from Millwall ahead of a permanent switch with Charlton the obvious choice after he played for the side on loan last season.

Burnley are set to offer goalkeeper Lee Grant a new contract. His current deal expires at the end of the season and rumours have already started to circulate that several Championship sides are interested in signing him. Grant is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the football league.

Nottingham Forest have re-signed Billy Davies as the club’s manager. Davies takes charge of the side for the second time following the decision of Alex McLeish to hand in his resignation after just 40 days in charge of the Championship giants. The owner’s have promised not to interfere with Davies’ running of the club.
