Manchester United's loss - Incredible Lucas Moura making instant impression at PSG

Manchester United came close to signing Lucas Moura in the summer, only to see him sign with big-spending PSG instead.

Brazil take on England tonight at Wembley, and there will be a host of top stars on show including blast from the past, Ronaldinho.

One of the top stars of the 'next generation' will also be hoping to dazzle, and that's PSG newest star, Lucas Moura.

Manchester United came so close to signing the Brazilian this summer, sending a delegation to the country to negotiate with Sao Paolo, and even Sir Alex Ferguson admitted their interest.

United were reported to have had a bid of £26 million turned down, but were said to have been turning the player's head, when big spenders PSG entered the fray and blew United's offer out of the water, paying around £33 million for his services.

As part of the deal, PSG allowed him to remain in South America until December, and he only officially joined them last month.

Already he is showing United that he really is their loss, in Ligue One he has racked up three assists in four games and is earning the plaudits.

Two of them came in the weekend's win over Toulouse, a 4-0 win which maintained their three point advantage at the top of Ligue One.

Carlo Ancelotti was suitably impressed: "This was undoubtedly our best performance of the season, and Lucas is going to get even better with each game."

Lucas played in behind Ibrahimovic, having started as a right-winger in his previous three games, and the enhanced license to get on the ball played to his strengths.

The stats are impressive too; Lucas' key passes per game (2.8) already outrank any of his PSG teammates. His successful dribbling attempts per game (2.5) are also the highest of any PSG player.

He is only four games in, and he may dip after his bright start, but he is proving to be everything the French side wanted him to be, and he can be the x-factor which propels them to the next level.

His new teammate is one well known to United fans; David Beckham. Lucas has already said what an 'honour' it will be to play with the former Red Devil.

Perhaps Beckham will be able to 'have a word' with him and persuade him to one day move to United...

United fans, are you disappointed to have missed out?
