England legend could be snubbed by the FA

Former Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce’s future as an England coach is in doubt ahead of new contract talks.

Stuart Pearce has been an England international coach for a very long time and he has produced some remarkable achievements including reaching the semi-finals of the Under-21 Euros and leading the national team.

His contract with England and the FA expires this June and there seems to be a thick air of uncertainty surrounding whether he will be offered a new contract by the powers that be.

Pearce is due to lead England’s Under-21 side into the Euro 2013 tournament in Israel with several sources suggesting that the FA want to wait to see how the side gets on.

It could effectively mean curtains for Pearce if the side performs badly which means he’ll be out of a job unless Roy Hodgson saves him with a role in the senior England side.

“In the discussions I’ve had, the guidance I’ve had from the FA is they’d prefer to wait to the summer, which probably I would – it’s a fantastic job, a fantastic environment to work, in, that’s for sure. But really my focus at the moment just takes me to the, summer, then there’ll be a conversation,” Pearce told the Telegraph.

The basic reason the FA should get him signed up again is because he’s a very good coach who has built up a solid knowledge of coaching since his first job at Manchester City in 2005.

He also personifies everything that is great about English football. He showed tremendous passion as a player and although he has calmed down as a coach, he still displays that passion when his sides play well.

His personal experiences are also perfect for his role in international football. Pearce suffered heartbreak as a player with England and he knows how to deal with various high pressure situations.

He’s done this before with England and there are bound to be occasions where he needs to help the youngsters again, as a penalty shoot out bears down on them. Hopefully this time, we’ll actually win one.

The overlying worrying factor for Pearce is that several other individuals have been promoted into senior coaching roles with the England senior team and given long contracts.

This has happened during the time that Pearce may have expected to be offered a new deal himself. It’s a case of wait and see but if Pearce is out of a job this summer, there will be a long list of teams trying to snap him up as manager.

Do you think the FA are playing games with Pearce or just waiting?
