Joleon Lescott an unlikely transfer target for money-laden PSG?

Lescott And Barry

Paris Saint-Germain are set to go after one of Manchester City’s most important defenders.

Joleon Lescott has not had the best of seasons with Manchester City and he’s only in the team at the moment because of injuries to other key players.

He has been linked with a move away from the Etihad for a long period of time and he could be forced into it this summer. The Daily Express has suggested Paris Saint-Germain as a possible option but it has some downsides.

PSG are effectively the French equivalent of Manchester City in the respect that they are only at the top of the game because of the money that has been pumped into the club.

It’s also unlikely, due to the calibre of the club, that Lescott would instantly become the most valuable central defender at PSG. In a sense he would be moving to a different side in a different country just to experience the same frustration.

There are also some financial downsides to a move to PSG because higher earners in France are taxed as heavily as anywhere else in the world. It’s not exactly a noble reason to shun a move to PSG but it’s a decisive factor.

Lescott has also never played club football outside England and with several clubs bound to be interested in signing him if he’s available, why would he want to leave the country?

Former club Everton would be a better option for him with David Moyes having already said that it would be difficult for him to turn down the chance of re-signing Lescott on a permanent basis.

As a move isn’t going to happen until at least the summer, he’s also got to weigh up the other signings PSG are likely to make and there will be plenty, which could include one or two other big name central defenders.

He’s better off staying at Manchester City where he’ll pay lower taxes, probably get just as much game time and won’t miss out in terms of Champions League football. The Premier League is also much higher quality than Ligue 1.

It’s all hearsay and nothing more. Roberto Mancini may not even be at the club past the summer which means Lescott’s role at City could change if a new boss comes in who wants to use him more regularly.
