Falcao replacement link is good for Chelsea and bad news for Arsenal

Atletico Madrid are said to have identified a replacement for Falcao. Can you guess who it is?

When Atletico Madrid allowed Sergio Aguero to leave for Manchester City, they didn't pocket the cash. They splashed the lot on a top quality replacement in Falcao.

Now with rumours linking the Colombian with a summer move to Chelsea, and Manchester City for that matter, the second placed team in La Liga are said to have already picked their replacement.

Their choice? David Villa.

The news is reported by Spanish daily AS, who claim contact has already been made between Atletico and David Villa's agents.

It's a big development because Atletico present an option for Villa which wasn't previously on the table, a chance to move to a top team in Spain, where he could remain with his family and newborn baby without having to uproot them to a different country.

Villa has been heavily linked with Arsenal, the Gunners were said to have enquired after the unsettled Barcelona striker in January, and are planning to go back in for him in the summer.

There is also a strong chance Atletico will have Champions League football to offer Villa next season. Arsenal at this stage cannot guarantee that.

The report is good news for Chelsea as it confirms Atletico are making plans to allow Falcao to leave.

It was always unlikely they would sell in January, while they were in second and challenging for the title, but come the end of the season expect him to make his big move. The question with Manchester City selling Balotelli is whether they will make him his replacement.

They came close to signing him back in 2002 but missed out to Valencia, and AS report the player and club have an appointment to talk come the end of the season.

Atletico are also considering Luis Suarez and Edin Dzeko. Suarez is unlikely and Dzeko would be more expensive, however if City do go in for Falcao, a swap deal could be negotiated for the Bosnian, leaving Arsenal a free run at Villa.

Can you see David Villa going to Atletico?
