Could Nani's return be bad news for Valencia or Young?

The Portuguese winger was widely assumed to be leaving Manchester United when Wilfried Zaha completed his move to Old Trafford in the summer, but Nani has returned to the first team in recent matches, whilst Valencia in particular looks well off the pace.

Such is the plethora of attacking option that Alex Ferguson has at his disposal at Manchester United, he was able to barely include Nani at all in his side during the first half of the season with no real negative effect on the side.

It was assumed by many that Nani's days at the club were numbered, with a January exit even a possibility and when the summer arrival of Wilfried Zaha was announced, it inevitably added fuel to the rumours that Nani was heading for the exit door at the end of the season.

However Nani has returned to the first team in recent weeks, and with each passing match he appears to be recovering some form. On his day Nani can be almost completely unplayable for opposition defences, and if he can get back to his best, might there be other wingers in United's squad more threatened by Wilfried Zaha's arrival.

Ashley Young has had injury difficulties during his spell at United, and has struggled to get a prolonged run in the first team as a result. More worrying for United fans has been Antonio Valencia's dip in form this season, with the Ecuadorian looking increasingly off the pace over the past couple of months.

Last season Valencia was a force of nature, bullying his way down his flank and delivering a constant stream of excellent crosses for Wayne Rooney to feast on. However this time around he has struggled when sides have doubled up on him, and you might wonder if Nani started to hit his best form in the next few months whether Valencia would have the most to fear from Wilfried Zaha's arrival.

You would expect that all of United's attackers will get an opportunity to impress over the coming months, and with the already intense competition set to be taken up a notch by Zaha's arrival players will know they likely to be competing for their long status at the club. Nani might have been assumed to be the man heading for the exit, but his return to the side means that any of their wingers could be under threat.
