Free Agent watch: Featuring Reo-Coker and Van Der Meyde says 'coast clear' for Drenthe

Former Everton, West Ham United, Aston Villa, Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town feature along with former Tottenham, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City transfer targets.

The Transfer Window has now been and gone and for Premier League teams that means the last chance to sign talent is now over. Or is it?

Despite David Beckham’s timing he could have waited a week or two before signing on the dotted line at PSG as his previous status as a ‘free agent’ entitled him to do so.

Players who for whatever reasons find themselves currently without a club are not constrained by the tyranny of the transfer window and can float around happy in the knowledge that they can negotiate with who they want whenever they want about their future employment; you know like a normal person can.

So who will be sending off their CV’s throughout February?

Following on from last week and French duo Louis Saha and Albin Ebondo are both still available on a free transfer but there is differing news on Royston Drenthe.

According to sources, in Holland, Russia and Suriname, Drenthe has now agreed a move to Russian Premier League side Alania Vladikavkaz after it had initially fell through last week. Interestingly Drenthe got old friend Andy Van Der Meyde to check if the city of Vladikavkaz had any nightclubs or pretty woman as they both struggled with the temptations on offer in Liverpool during their time at Everton. Van Der Meyde reportedly told Drenthe that the coast was clear for a move.

Nigel Reo-Coker

The former West Ham and Aston Villa midfielder is still a free agent after leaving Ipswich Town in January and was reportedly the subject of an offer from MLS side New York Red Bulls. At just 28 he still has plenty to offer and it appears that West Brom are ready to offer him a deal to the end of the season.

Romeo Castelen

The former Dutch international has been without a club since leaving Hamburg in the summer and has since been recovering from a serious knee injury. Recent trials in England at Middlesbrough and Birmingham City were unsuccessful he is reported to be in talks with Greek club PAOK Salonika. Although with the player keen on a move to England should a team give him a chance?

Jeremy Berthod

28-year-old former member of the French national team Jeremy Berthod would have made a good addition to many English clubs, but according to reports today any chance of signing him has now passed as he has agreed a shock move to recently promoted Sarpsborg 08 in Norway. Briefly linked with Tottenham in the past the move to the Norwegian outfit will see him being managed by the first man to score in the Premier League Brian Deane in a move that has caused a huge stir in the country.

Would you like your club to sign Nigel Reo-Coker or Romeo Castelen?
