Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been named England Player of the Year for 2012. England fans voted him the country’s best player following a poll which was opened by the FA in the months leading up to the presentation of the award. Jordan Henderson took the Under-21 version of the award.

Liverpool could be locked in a battle with local rivals Everton to sign Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta this summer. His deal runs out at the end of the season which means it could be a straight toss up between the two Merseyside clubs over which he’d rather sign for.

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says the recent resurgence in the club’s form means they can finish in fourth place. Liverpool have drawn massive praise from all corners of English football for their recent performances against some of the biggest sides in the country.

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina has suggested Liverpool have no chance of competing for the Premier League title this season or any in the near future. Reina made a bad mistake which led to Manchester City’s equaliser in the Premier League match over the weekend.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of England’s friendly match against Brazil this week. Sturridge picked up a thigh injury during the club’s 2-2 draw away at Manchester City and the knock, which he tried to run off during the game, requires further treatment.

Zenit St Petersburg could be lining up a £15 million bid for Liverpool central defender Martin Skrtel. The Russian transfer window stays open until the end of February with several sources today suggesting Skrtel could return to his old club for the right fee.

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce says he will wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to try and sign Andy Carroll permanently. Carroll is currently on loan at the East London club, originally joining on a season long loan deal from Liverpool.

Jordan Henderson has revealed that he was spurred on to perform for Liverpool by those who started heavily criticising him. Henderson has produced some superb performances in tough away matches for the club, winning over Brendan Rodgers who was reluctant to pick him at the start of the season.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni has revealed that he had a heart attack last summer. Doni has just left the club to go back and play in his native Brazil and he has revealed the life threatening incident is why he has been out of first team action since last season.
